Christmas 2015

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a lovely day with your family and friends! I am spending the day at my aunt's house in the valley, which is surprisingly cold and windy! I find it so weird how it is warmer on the East Coast and it is 50 degrees here in "sunny" Southern California! Since it was so cold, I wanted to keep it warm and casual so I went with this sweater and denim look! Plus, it just so happened to pair really well with my NEW PURSE from Kate Spade New York (aka my favorite designer) so thank you mom & dad for the beautiful gift!

My sweater was a gift from my brother so thank you Ryan Allen for having such good taste hehe and then I put a denim shirt from Cotton On underneath! My black denim pants are from Old Navy and my boots are from Payless (a total steal!)

Once again, I hope you all have a lovely day and get everything you wished for!

Happy Holidays!

Until next time...

Kelly Guidry New York

Hello everyone! I have just gotten back from my trip to New York and oh boy do I love that city! Although it was cold and my California body was practically shivering the entire time (east coast people are probably laughing because it was only 50 degrees), I had an awesome time and seriously cannot wait to go back! Here are some pictures from my adventure there, enjoy!

DAY ONE
It had been two years since the last time I was on a plane so I was pretty happy to be travelling in general, but the fact that I was heading towards New York made things all the better hehe! It was also my first time flying with Virgin America and the purple lights in the cabin combined with the gorgeous pink and purple sky outside my window made it a perfect and surprisingly quick flight (only 4 1/2 hours!)

DAY TWO
So my trip to New York was mainly for college visits so my first visit was to Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. As you can see from the pictures, the campus is gorgeous, but I'm pretty sure any campus on the east coast during autumn is gorgeous because of the trees! I have never seen so many yellow and orange and red leaves—my heart was in heaven. The one thing about Hofstra that I loved was when the couple that found Hofstra were planning to build the university, the only way the wife would be okay with it was if her cats would be able to roam around the campus freely so now the descendants of those cats walk around and live on campus, which is pretty cool coming from a cat lover hehe

DAY THREE
Since I didn't have any college visits scheduled this day, I decided to meet up with my friend Ashley who goes to school in NY for some food and adventuring around the city. We ate at Urban Space, which is a couple blocks from Grand Central Station and I had this delicious pizza and it was fun catching up! Then we headed out to Central Park, aka my favorite place in the city and the park was GORGEOUS that day! The leaves were so beautiful and it wasn't too crowded so it was nice walking around. Then when we headed back to my hotel, I got some few shots of the city oh my, when I was editing these photos, it made me so sad! I'm pretty sure I'm having PNYD (Post New York Depression) because I miss the city so much!

DAY FOUR
My final day in New York was spent at Fordham University, located in the Bronx. Let me say this, I LOVE THIS CAMPUS SO MUCH omg the Gothic architecture of the buildings combined with the gorgeous trees (and not to mention the gorgeous boys hehe) I have officially fallen in love with this school! Also after the campus tour, we ate at this amazing Italian restaurant on Arthur Ave. which is known as the Little Italy of the Bronx so that was a plus hehe I definitely could see myself at this school in the near future!

Overall, I had a wonderful time in the city that I have fallen in love with and I seriously cannot wait until I get to go back again. Now that I am back in SoCal, I have to admit that I miss the 40 degree weather, which is weird to say because who would want to actually be in the cold!? I guess I do hehe Anyways, I cannot wait for my future travels and being able to document them as well!

Until next time...

Madeleines

Hello, or should I say Bonjour!

If you do not know already, I am currently taking French in school and this is surprisingly my fourth year! Every semester my teacher assigns this project where we have to embrace French culture in some way, shape, or form. I always opt for trying to cook because French cuisine is some of the best out there! If you want to see my cooking adventures from last semester, click here. For this semester, I chose to make madeleines! These are one of my favorite French desserts because they are not too sweet and taste great with a side of coffee or tea. Also, their shell shape makes them look so cute and you don't have to do much to present them, just a simple stacking on a pretty plate and you're all set! For the recipe to these delicious treats, click here. These cakes were really easy to make and most of the ingredients you can find in your house already. The only downside is that you need the shell mold because they wouldn't be madeleines without their classic shape. Luckily, my teacher had some already so I didn't need to go out and buy molds, but you should be able to find them at Bed, Bath and Beyond or even Target.

I can't believe I only have one more semester of French so my final culture project will have to be a great one! Can't wait to see what I decide to do!

Jusq'uà la prochaine fois...

#MadeInTheAM

To all my fellow directioners out there, how are you hangin'? I am currently in a whirlwind of One Direction and who said that Friday the 13th was supposed to be an unlucky day!? Thanks to the boys, I will be spending the rest of my life singing along to these songs because they are THAT good! Wow they definitely did not disappoint! If you have never been a fan of One Direction, I highly suggest that you listen to this album because it has a whole new vibe to it and they sound so much more mature, especially since there are more mellow songs than upbeat ones. If you don't believe me, then listen for yourself! Now here is my review of Made in the AM! (btw I reviewed the Deluxe Edition so this post may be a little long)

HEY ANGEL
First song on the album and the first couple beats sounded like it was a "walking down the aisle" tune, but then it quickly sped up after that. The only downside is that I think this is my least favorite song on the album—it just doesn't do much for me. Although their voices are angelic and the harmonies sound great, it kind of is just the same thing over and over again, which is not my favorite. Don't get me wrong I'll probably still have this song on repeat, but I may skip it here and now.

DRAG ME DOWN
The first song they released for promotion and I understand why—it's catchy and you find yourself humming the tune and singing the lyrics subconsciously AND the best part about this song is that my brother, yes I said my brother, said it is his favorite One Direction song. So if they can get a 16-year old teenage boy to like this song, then they are obviously doing something right. Also, how can you forget the music video at the NASA space station at golden hour? BRB while I watch the music video for the millionth time

PERFECT
This was the second song that they released prior to the album dropping and it was my favorite and is definitely in my top 5! ((Yes, I was able to create a list of my top 5 songs from the album, which I have at the bottom of this post!)) The beat is so intriguing, it's too hard to not want to dance! Plus, you have Harry Styles with his tempting lyrics about hotel rooms and secret little rendezvous, oh boy my heart. I think my favorite part is the ending where they have the clapping beat and they're kind of singing/chanting the lyrics? I can totally picture this song in concert and the entire crowd getting into it and it looks amazing in my imagination right now hehe. And we have to mention the music video—black and white video with stunning images of the city life? Yes please!

INFINITY
This song is another one that they released for promotion, which is understandable because I can really hear the passion that the boys put into this and it resulted in an amazing song. I really like singing along to this one while I'm driving alone because I can belt out the lyrics and get no shame for it hehe. Other than that, this is another great song by the boys, but it did not make my top 5.

END OF THE DAY
One of my absolute favorites! Out of my top 5, I would say this is number 2. The beat is really catchy and it's a really fun song to sing along to. You know how there are those songs where you only have to listen to it a couple times before you practically know all of the lyrics by heart? Yeah this song is one of those.

IF I COULD FLY
When I first heard this song, it was an unexpected surprise—I didn't think they would ever do a song with a piano and here they are amazing me with their vocals along a piano tune. This song is so raw and beautiful and it sounds like they are singing to only you and what girl doesn't want that!? For those non-One Direction fans, if you only listened to one song off of this album, I highly suggest you choose this one. Also, can we please pray that one of the boys learns how to play the piano so they can play it during their performance because how amazing would that be? This song is definitely my favorite "slow" song and I'd say number 3 on my top 5 list.

LONG WAY DOWN
This is another great song, but not great enough to make it into my top 5. If you want a song to wind down to, then I suggest this one. It's so calming and their vocals sound great on this track.

NEVER ENOUGH
Hands down my FAVORITE song on the album! They have this grunt(?) throughout the song that reminds me of frat boys for whatever reason? And with lyrics like "lips so good, I forget my name" wow, just wow. I really hope they make a music video for this song because I have a feeling it would be a silly, but fun one! Also, this is the first time where my best friend Sabrina and I have pinned the same song as our absolute favorite on the album!

OLIVIA
I wish my name was Olivia, but unfortunately it is not. When will the day come where they have a song called Kelly!? However, if your name IS Olivia, you lucky lucky girl hehe and with Niall and Liam's I love you I love you I lo-lo-lo-lo-love Olivia, it made me really wish my name was Olivia haha but lowkey may name my future daughter after this song because it's so cute and I love it! Also, their vocals sound AMAZING on this track.

WHAT A FEELING
When this song came out, I had no idea how to feel about this song. I can't describe it, but it sounds so different from what they usually do, it kind of reminds me of a disco song, but it's not a disco song? I honestly have no idea how to describe this one, but it is my best friend Christine's favorite and she has vowed to get me to like this song so we will wait and see, maybe it will grow on me?

LOVE YOU GOODBYE
The beginning of this song kind of reminds me of "Too Late to Apologize" by One Republic? However, it quickly sounded like a One Direction song once it got to the chorus. This is another mellow song on their album. It's great, but not great enough to make it into my top 5. Although, I predict this to be an amazing song live.

I WANT TO WRITE YOU A SONG
Okay One Direction, I give you permission to write me a song. This song is so sweet and innocent if that makes sense? Also, Louis' raspy voice, WOW so beautiful. With their lyrics of being supportive and wanting to be there for their girl, it makes me wish that I could have one of them be mine (but which fan doesn't want that!?)

HISTORY
Among my yearbook staff, this is our favorite. We always sing along to this song while we're working on our pages hehe. It is definitely a good song to work to and it is really hard to not sing along to the chorus. The beat is kind of folky, which is not typical of One Direction songs, but with this album, you can really tell how mature they wanted their sound to be and you can see that (or I guess hear?) if you listen to their Up All Night album and then Made in the AM.

TEMPORARY FIX
I would say this is the most "stereotypical" song on the album, where the sound is upbeat and catchy—a classic move for One Direction. This song is good, but not great enough to make it into my top 5. I can imagine this song playing when I'm having a dance break with my friends during one of our study sessions.

WALKING IN THE WIND
The background music reminds me of the music that plays as you're playing Super Mario Bros? These songs remind me of the weirdest things, but if you think about it, it subtly resembles a Nintendo song!? This is another one on the album that sounds great with their harmonies, but just doesn't do that much for me to put it in my top 5.

WOLVES
When listening to this song, I picture the boys in a 50's diner, where Liam and Louis are greasers and Harry and Niall are prep boys singing to this song—it's very retro and I REALLY like it, kind of Beach Boys-esque. Definitely made my top 5! Another song that is really catchy and easy to sing along to. The lyrics make it sound like they're protective over this girl that seems to be liked by a lot of "wolves" aka thirsty boys, which is really cute—good job One Direction.

A.M.
If I could have a top 6, then this would be number 6! I really like how they ended the album with a mellow song, it's like a calming end to a rollercoaster of emotions from listening to the rest of the album. I can picture this song to be the first song of the encore or the last song before they take their break before the encore, either way I really hope this song makes the set list when they tour.

Yay! You reached the bottom of this ridiculously long post, congratulations. To sum everything up here are my top 5 songs on the album, that I'm kind of forcing you, but not really forcing you to listen to hehe

  1. Never Enough
  2. End of the Day
  3. If I Could Fly
  4. Perfect
  5. Wolves
Although One Direction will not be touring until 2017, you can best believe that my 19-year old self (19 YIKES) will be attending their concert when they come to town! Until then, I guess I will have to find support in their beautiful voices hehe

Until next time...

21 Choices

Hello, long time no see!

After a couple busy months, I finally have the chance to blog again! One thing people forget to mention is how busy you are during your senior year! Between homework, yearbook, and college apps, I am definitely struggling to find time for fun stuff, but luckily I was able to sneak in a few hours this weekend to go out to Old Town Pasadena for dinner and ice cream to celebrate my best friend Anjali's birthday!

Now one thing about me is that I have this "bucket list," which consists of a variety of places that I want to visit, but it mostly consists of foods (no surprise there) that I really want to try. One of the places that we went to this weekend was 21 Choices, which has been on my bucket list for a little over a year now so I was really excited to finally try it and boy it did not disappoint! It felt so good to check this place off my bucket list, but it will definitely not be my one and only visit there.

If you haven't been to 21 Choices, the best way to describe it is it's a Coldstone-esque shop, but instead of using ice cream, they use frozen yogurt! I definitely prefer fro-yo over ice cream so I was one happy girl! When you get there, you can choose your base and pick your mix-ins or you can choose from one of their 21 choices (ha get it?) which is what I did! I went with The Saucy Sailor (btw such a cute name), which was vanilla fro-yo with caramel, cookie dough, sea salt, and peanut butter. It was DELICIOUS! OH and their cookie dough is homemade so what more could you ask for!?

The only downfall to this was that the line was out the door, so if you plan on going there, be prepared to wait. However, they do make the waiting experience enjoyable once you get inside since they give out free samples and who doesn't love free samples!? Overall, I would give this place a 10/10 because it is SO good that I'll probably be craving a saucy sailor every time I feel like something sweet sigh

I hope you all have a wonderful week and what is something on YOUR bucket list?

Until next time...

Kellyx17

Whoop Whoop I'm finally 17! *party popper emoji* 17: wow! It's hard to believe that I can now go to a movie theatre and buy an R-rated movie ticket, things are about to get pretty wild for me hehe! To celebrate my birthday, I went to dinner with some of my closest friends and obviously I had to do an outfit post! So my dress is from Forever 21—I was really surprised that I found this dress within 5 minutes of walking into the store, it was a miracle! To complement the dress, I went with some ankle booties also from Forever 21. For makeup, I wore my traditional foundation routine, Naked 3 palette for my eyes and Twig from MAC for my lips. To top everything off, I wore my signature curls!
