DEAR FUTURE ME

Dear Future Me,

Tomorrow you embark on your last first day of high school. It is hard to believe that these past three years have flown by so quickly, yet, here you are. You are a senior. You have officially made it. Now don't let this superiority get to your head, you still have a long way to go.

During these next 10 months, you will be faced with many challenges. Some that you will succeed at and others that you will come short. If you get a bad grade on a test, don't let it get to you. I know at the time it will seem like the worst thing ever, but please do not obsess over the one bad grade, there will be plenty of other opportunities to raise that grade and I hope everything will turn out okay in the end. You will smile. You will cry. You will laugh. Your experience as a senior is completely based on you, so don't sweat the small stuff. I hope the memories this year will be your best ones yet.

With senior year comes college apps. It's stressful right now, but the journey is just beginning. Take a deep breath and don't stress so much over the little things. Although, you probably will continue to get stressed just because that is who you are. I hope that when all of this is done, you look back and know that you did the best you could. There will be rejections, but there will also be acceptances, and those are what count. Keep in mind that wherever you end up is where you are meant to be. It could be on the east coast, but it could also be on the west coast, only time will tell.

Please go to the football games and the basketball games and the stag dances because these could possibly be your last ones. Go to homecoming and prom even if you don't get asked, you will have your best friends by your side and you will have a good time. Plus, they give you an excuse to buy new dresses and to get dressed up, so there really isn't a reason to not go. I truly hope you have a fun time during your senior year even though there will be tons of schoolwork and studying. Try not to procrastinate as much as you did last year, I want your senior year to be as easy as possible, so please get a head-start on things.

Throughout all of the stress and anxiety you face this year, I know on Graduation Day you will feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. It will be bittersweet, but please take everything in. At that point, you will know where you are spending the next four years of your life and that is pretty crazy to think about right now. Only 9 months and 18 days to go :-)

I hope that when we look back on our senior year, we say it was the best time of our life. I have a feeling it will be a good one.

Good luck and have fun!
